Camp Connick

After Bev and Chris we traveled 9 long hours to North Carolina to see our good friends the Connicks. When we first walked in their house we couldn't believe how big it was. We went to bed late without realising it was midnight and we had a fun sleep over with everyone in the basement. On Saturday it was really fun as we went to the The National Whitewater Center. We had to be really fit because the the USA Whitewater Olympic team trains there which was cool. There were 3 zip lines, one zip line was 600 meters long and it was 30 meters high.  Another zip line was a lot shorter it was 200 meters long and 30 meters high over a canyon. Another fun activity at this park was rock climbing there were 5 different courses of  difficulty to explore. To conquer you had to climb to the top that was 15 meters high. The fun part of the rock climbing was when we came down the rocks as we just slide down to the ground. There were 5 high wire obstacle courses to try your skills on: strength, balance, endurance and no fear of heights as on some of the obstacle courses you were 50 feet high. On one of the courses you had to to balance on one wire and move through obstacles while balancing on the wire. Creepy!

On Sunday we went to our first NFL football game! The game was between the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. Before the game we went tailgating which is an event that tradionally happens before any football game.  Thanks to our friends Peter  and Andrea Connick we had a big barbecue that included hot dogs, hamburgers, and BBQ pepperoni which was really tasty.  Also, we had drinks and other snacks like chips, crackers, and dips.  In the parking lot which was near the stadium, we threw the football while tailgating. There were about a thousand people just in our parking lot doing the same sort of thing. It was crazy, there were people rapping, singing, dancing and just talking.  The Panthers were the underdogs as they were 3-9 before going in to the game and the Falcons were 11-1 going in to this game. Some of the neat things we saw were seeing the players close up during the warm-up as they were really big compared to what the look like on TV.  Cam Newton, the Panthers quarterback, he was looked really tall and strong.  The crowd during the game would really get loud on third down when the Falcons had the ball and the Panthers were on defense.  Surprisingly, there were many Falcons fans in the stadium which holds about 73,000 fans.  The best and most exciting play was when Cam Newton ran 75 yards for a touchdown which caused us to yell and scream.  The final score was 30-20 for Panthers which was a really exiting game to watch.
