Cookie bake-off!

On a rainy, windy Wednesday evening with homework completed the boys were inspired to have a cookie bake-off. Charlie and Owen vs Finn. Both teams carefully chose their recipes.

Charlie and Owen decided to play it safe with a traditional chocolate chip recipe.

Whilst Finn on the other hand opted for a more challenging option, baking molasses crisps.

Judge Dad had the difficult decision of choosing the victor. He claimed both were delicious calling the chocolate chips "moist and tender" and the crisps "moist and powerful in flavour".  After much consideration and many samples he declared the Crisps the winner.  Bravo Finn! Daddy was apparently impressed with the detail of the decorative sugar Finn had sprinkled on top and the extra effort he made in researching the perfect recipe.  The author must also note that Eli the black shark lurked in the kitchen the entire duration of the bake-off only to come up shockingly empty handed this time around.
The contender cookie.

Football Frenzy

A new football league is afoot in town, with Coach John Turner at the helm. Charlie and Finn are ecstatic! Here they are in action in last Sunday's game. The first shot is of Charlie scoring his first touch down ever. He went on to score the only 3 others made in the game by his team.
Warrior! They scored a major upset as they were the underdogs, not expecting
to win a game this season beating Moncton 25-19. Char was speechless after
the game! Finn had an unbelievable game on Defense and made the paper the
next day tackling a guy 2x his size, hanging onto his ankle for dear
life.(all with a smile on his face and his glasses crooked behind his mask). Look closely at the second photo. He's in the bottom right hand corner.
Wonder where they get their love of the game? Any ideas?

Officially on leave! Westward bound (up-west that is!)

Wow, what a feeling! Usually the long weekend is spent doing last minute prep work in our classrooms and getting everything organized for our upcoming year and for getting the boys ready for school. For the first time in 20 years, we went on holiday for the long weekend!!! Why? Because we are on a half year leave! Where you may ask? In our very own backyard! We discovered the North Cape Coastal Drive in glorious PEI. We spent the long weekend exploring meandering back roads that ended at quaint and busy fishing wharves, hiking trails, poking about backyard Art studios, discovering quiet beaches loitered by seals and inukshuks, witnessed Irish Moss harvesting and ate from cozy and local cafés...some of the greatest seafood.....and yes, seaweed pie. This weekend reminded me that we don't have to go far to discover treasures and find adventure.  Sometimes they are in our very own backyards. Smiles wide from these traveling Turners, big and small. It was a great family weekend.
